Our Story

The foundation of AOTCA was attributed to the existence of the Confédération Fiscale Européenne (CFE), the international organisation for tax advisors in Europe with a long history since 1959. Over the years tax professionals doing businesses in the Asian and Oceanic regions had been strongly conscious of the necessity that the same international professional body as CFE would exist in the area.

On 6 November 1992 an inauguration meeting took place in Tokyo Japan with the attendance of representatives of founding member organisations from 8 countries and regions. Since then AOTCA has grown to a membership of 19 professional bodies from jurisdictions including Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and two associate members from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

President Message

I am delighted to be appointed as the President of Asia Oceania Tax Consultant’s Association (“AOTCA”) with effect from 1 January 2023. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with many seasoned tax professionals in different jurisdictions across globe. I sincerely thank you for the trust and support of Euney Marie Mata-Perez (our past president), the committee members, advisors and the associations that you have given to me.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you Indonesian Tax Consultants Association for their well-planned and organized annual Conference held in Bali in November 2022. In light of the travel restrictions for some countries as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic, the organizing team for the Bali Conference needed to put in extra effort to cater for both physical and virtual attendance. The arrangement of the Conference was well received despite of the challenges. I believe all of the delegates who attended the Conference would appreciate the opportunity to physically meet up with colleagues after a long while of travel restriction. As we are approaching to the end of the pandemic and travel restrictions in member association countries have gradually been lifted, we are looking forward to the upcoming 2023 conference to be held in Japan. A special thanks to Japan who has agreed to take up the hosting country for 2023 in a short notice.

Looking ahead, we will continue to closely collaborate with Confederation Fiscale Europeenne, West African Union of Tax Institutes as well as the Study Group on Asian Tax Administration and Research to involve our footprint in the international tax arena and to reflect our member associations’ comments on international tax law and practice.

On the collaboration among member associations within AOTCA, we will continue to encourage the sharing of technical information from different jurisdictions.

Finally, I would like to once again thank all of you for your continued support of AOTCA’s activities. I look forward to another fruitful year ahead of us. If you have any suggestions and recommendations, please feel free to contact me directly at jeremy.choi@hk.pwc.com or through our secretariat at aotca@nichizeiren.jp.
